Case 2: Laser Birthmark Removal (Port-Wine Stain Treatment)
This 9 year-old boy was born with a port-wine stain (congenital facial capillary malformation) of the right cheek. His parents brought him to Minneapolis Plastic Surgery for pulsed dye laser treatments. He had a total of three outpatient laser treatments under oral and IV sedation (many sources claim pulsed dye laser treatment is able to be done without any anesthesia, but in fact each laser pulse--several hundred are needed--feels like a hard rubber band snap or bacon grease from a frying pan on the face; quite uncomfortable for a child).
Number of Treatments: 4
Type of Laser: Pulsed dye laser (Candela)
